Even after switching to another armor set, then back to the Armor of Altair, the cape was still Medici. I've tried using the normal cape and even putting on Altair's outfit, switching armor sets with it on, then taking it off, but I can't get that first cape to come back, and it was the best for the armor (that I've unocked so far, anyhow).
