As far as I am aware if you are just in transit anf do not plan on passing through immigration (stay in the airport through out) you will not be asked for a visa. We hope to go by bus from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, where we will be staying near to the Jaffa flea market. Given recent developments (eg. the rocket fire targeting Tel Aviv) we are rather concerned about safety and are thinking of cancelling the trip. Having lived in Tel Aviv's suburbs the past 3 years, I can assure you it's about as safe as going to New York City, LA, Rome, any other western metropolitan area. There are occasional flare ups, but seeing as the most recent one just happened, it's probably safe to say another won't happen for years. Enjoy the food, culture, history, and nightlife.
